YAML 1.2 Standards & Developer Specification Reference
Tab Indentation Prohibition

YAML specifications explicitly prohibit tab characters (\t) in indentation. Formatting enforces clean space indentation (2 or 4 spaces).

Multiline Block Scalars

Literal block scalars (|, |-, |+) and folded block scalars (>, >-, >+) maintain newlines and whitespace verbatim.

Anchors & Alias Merges

Anchor definitions (&anchor) and alias merge references (<<: *alias) are preserved without forced data expansion.

Multi-Document Streams

Supports multi-document YAML files demarcated by three dashes (---) and document end markers (...).
